AOVET Board Elections 2019

Three AOVET members with shared passion for making AOVET an even stronger asset to veterinary surgeons will soon start new terms on the AOVET European Regional Board and the AOVET Asia Pacific Regional Board. Elections took place earlier this year in April.

Reelected to three-year terms on the AOVET European Board Prof Christoph Lischer, Head of the Equine Clinic in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the Free University of Berlin in Germany, and Gareth Arthurs, a consultant small animal orthopedic surgeon and honorary associate professor in small animal orthopedic surgery at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science in the United Kingdom. Elected to a three-year term on the AOVET Asia Pacific Regional Board was ChiaMing “Charlie” Chang, an orthopedic surgeon with Shanghai Naughty Family Animal Hospital in Shanghai, China, and Eden Animal Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.

Lischer: continued development of AOVET courses

Lischer, who has been AOVET faculty for more than 20 years and organizes the basic equine course in Berlin, Germany, is convinced that fracture repair education is an important task of the clinical division and key to maintaining a high level of service to surgeons treating horses with fractures. He is a large animal representative on the AOVET European Regional Board.

“My motivation to apply for reelection is to continue to improve the organization of AOVET courses in Europe and further develop them to a sustainable level,” said Lischer, whose new board term starts in July.

Arthurs: maintaining AOVET’s first-class reputation

Maintaining AOVET’s reputation as a valuable and well-respected educational resource is top priority for Arthurs, who was reelected to a three-year term as a small animal representative on the AOVET European Regional Board.

“I will continue to work hard to achieve the goals of AOVET including maintaining its reputation as a first-class international educational resource delivering first-class education and survival in a somewhat uncertain commercial environment,” said Arthurs, an AOVET UK faculty member for the Principles in Fracture Management course. His second term starts in July.

Chang: ‘whatever I can do’

Chang, a small animal specialist and AOVET faculty member, said he has benefitted from his AOVET involvement and wants to do his part to strengthen the clinical division.

“I have gotten a lot of help and learned from AOVET over the past years…not only from the professional aspect, but also from how their passion and selfless spirit make the veterinary orthopedic specialty better,” said Chang, whose term begins as well in July “My only goal will be to give back to AOVET and do whatever I can to make AOVET better. I hope to see more people benefit from AOVET and establish a selfless spirit in their own careers.”
