09. August 2017

The AOVET Course—Masters in Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy is for practicing veterinarians and residents with experience in orthopedic surgery.

“Participants at this course will learn how to plan and execute a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy using locking TPLO plates for stabilization,” shares course chair Mark Glyde. “The course set-up includes lectures, practical exercises, and interactive small group discussions, to provide a high quality learning experience,” he adds.

About the course

The course covers clinical and radiographic examination for cruciate disease, pathogenesis, the biomechanical rationale for TPLO, surgical decision-making and planning, the surgical technique of locking TPLO plating, the diagnosis and treatment of meniscal injury, and the outcome and complications of TPLO when compared to other surgical techniques.

The course’s practical exercises are performed on plastic bone models and cover radiographic TPLO planning, locking plate TPLO surgical techniques, and TPLO correction of pathologically steep tibial plateau angles.

Additional course

Before the TPLO course, the AOVET Course—Advanced Techniques in Small Animal Fracture Management will take place from August 21–24, 2017.
